Digital VS Crafts

Domus Academy announces the third appointment of the VS Talk series titled ‘Digital VS Crafts’ on Friday 4th October at 18.30. The debate, chaired by Domus Academy Scientific Director Fabio Novembre, will involve two of the most talented contemporary designers Ora ïto and Marcantonio. Speakers will activate a stimulating dialogue to create new ideas starting from their different visions on design. Ora ïto is an international designer ranked by Wallpaper amongst the top 40 most influential designers under 40 years old, with his multidisciplinary approach coupled with keen eye for digital innovations he has confronted himself with numbers of projects at different scales. Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba is a sculptor and Designer who reinterprets playfully the Italian ready-made. His collaboration with Seletti gave birth to an iconic series inspired by the connections between human beings, animals and nature. Zanotta celebrates 50 years of Sacco with a special and numbered eco-sustainable edition.

A showcase installation that will last for the whole duration of the Brera Design Days with opening on the evening of October 4th. Zanotta celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sacco armchair with a special and numbered “green” edition. Designed in 1968 by the young architects Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro and put into production by Zanotta in 1969, Sacco represented a provocation and a revolution expressing the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated those years. Known as symbol of avant-garde and experimenting, Sacco turns today in “green” version: innovative sustainable materials both for the internal filling and for the cover, proposed in a brand-new texture designed by Pierre Charpin, relaunch the icon while caring for the environment. Inauguration of MOSTRO 3 Graphic Design Camp MOSTRO, the third edition of the International Festival dedicated to graphic arts and visual communication, returns to Milan in three venues from 3 to 10 October 2019 as part of the Brera Design Days. COFFEE POTS FROM THE MASTERS. When architecture and design meet the Moka.

The Lavazza Flagship in Milan, the place where coffee and design meet, is the perfect setting for a small, thoughtful exhibition of moka coffee pots: objects through which international masters of architecture and design celebrate the art and pleasure of coffee. The coffee pot is a ritual, a symbol, a perfect synthesis between form and function. These twenty-four exercises carried out by architects and designers show how essential the theme of the moka is in a designer’s CV. Those who have not yet designed one, want to be able to do so; those who have succeeded have provided lovers of the object with a new piece to study, appreciate and eventually collect. The golden section, from Leonardo to contemporary design with the works and declinations of the Origoni Steiner studio

An iconographic path that shows, as in history until today, starting from Leonardo who used it to identify in his famous drawing the proportions in the human body, architects, graphic designers, and used the golden section to refine the proportions of their works. CUF Milano, a new brand for the design and construction of contemporary workplaces, presents in its showroom in via Rosales, a careful selection of works by Studio Origoni Steiner that show the use of the divine proportion in projects representative of graphics in Italy. A visual experiment aimed at extending the relationship between curator and designer to that of the visual communicator. The exhibition will be set up at the Formentini Laboratory and during a talk in which the authors will talk to Didero about the themes of the exhibition. At MOSTRO he will present his collection of football uniforms of a hypothetical World Cup played by the sovereign countries existing in 1918. Pavel will also be present in the group show that will open at the Meme gallery, a new space dedicated to design and applied arts. Rethink! Service Design Stories - II edition

The new green (city) deal.  Regenerative urban development. Rethink! is the very first Italian festival dedicated to service design. Rethink! brings together designers, companies, and institutions to encourage critical thinking on service innovation, by connecting service design players from all over the world. Sacco goes green. Zanotta celebrates 50 years of Sacco and becomes eco-sustainable

A showcase installation that will last for the whole duration of the Brera Design Days with opening on the evening of October 4th. Zanotta celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sacco armchair with a special and numbered “green” edition. Designed in 1968 by the young architects Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro and put into production by Zanotta in 1969, Sacco represented a provocation and a revolution expressing the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated those years. Known as symbol of avant-garde and experimenting, Sacco turns today in “green” version: innovative sustainable materials both for the internal filling and for the cover, proposed in a brand-new texture designed by Pierre Charpin, relaunch the icon while caring for the environment. Little Masters. Stories of children who were children like you.

An exhibition of pictures accompanied by small narratives of their childhood memories illustrates the masters of design in the age of their childhood. On the occasion of the fourth edition of the Brera Design Days, Fondazione Corriere della Sera will host a project curated by Chiara Alessi and Elisa Testori, produced by StudioLabo. Twenty or so images will cover a thirty-year period of history from the 1920s to the 1940s, with as many episodes aimed at highlighting that moment which is not considered to be very important, but which is certainly crucial for the identification of the \"codes of the soul\" of our great Masters of Italian design: childhood. The photographs, mostly unpublished, have been found with the collaboration of the families, archives and publishers of reference of the Masters. The quotations that accompany the Masters\' photographs as children come from private conversations, publications, diaries and letters, or from unpublished material specially prepared for the exhibition. The subtitle \"Stories of children who were children like you\" alludes to the extraordinary nature of these events, each special and unique in its own way, and at the same time to the absolute normality of the Masters\' childhoods, their games, their desires and fears, framed by the years of the Wars. The names range from the great masters who have passed away, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Richard Sapper, Alessandro Mendini, Aldo Rossi, Joe Colombo, Marco Zanuso, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, to the illustrious names of the golden age of Italian design: Enzo Mari, Cini Boeri, Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi, Ugo La Pietra. The layout and graphics, by Paolo Giacomazzi, follow the inspiration of the carousel, with an ideal roundabout in which the spectator is at the centre and the little masters hold hands.

The format of MOSTRO continues to insist on exhibitions, talks and workshops in collaboration with the Laboratorio Formentini to tell the figures and crafts of visual communication and graphic arts.  This year the festival also involves two other venues: the Czech Center in via Morgagni and the new Meme gallery in via Crispi, Milan. \"The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work\" - says Marco Sammicheli - Curator of the Festival, \"The collaboration with the Czech Center stems from the desire to dedicate to the Czech Republic the role of host country. The School of Design of the University of San Marino is another guest of the festival. The golden section, from Leonardo to contemporary design with the works and declinations of the Origoni Steiner studio

An iconographic path that shows, as in history until today, starting from Leonardo who used it to identify in his famous drawing the proportions in the human body, architects, graphic designers, and used the golden section to refine the proportions of their works. CUF Milano, a new brand for the design and construction of contemporary workplaces, presents in its showroom in via Rosales, a careful selection of works by Studio Origoni Steiner that show the use of the divine proportion in projects representative of graphics in Italy. Sacco goes green. Zanotta celebrates 50 years of Sacco and becomes eco-sustainable

A showcase installation that will last for the whole duration of the Brera Design Days with opening on the evening of October 4th. Zanotta celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sacco armchair with a special and numbered “green” edition. Designed in 1968 by the young architects Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro and put into production by Zanotta in 1969, Sacco represented a provocation and a revolution expressing the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated those years. Known as symbol of avant-garde and experimenting, Sacco turns today in “green” version: innovative sustainable materials both for the internal filling and for the cover, proposed in a brand-new texture designed by Pierre Charpin, relaunch the icon while caring for the environment. Little Masters. Stories of children who were children like you.

An exhibition of pictures accompanied by small narratives of their childhood memories illustrates the masters of design in the age of their childhood. On the occasion of the fourth edition of the Brera Design Days, Fondazione Corriere della Sera will host a project curated by Chiara Alessi and Elisa Testori, produced by StudioLabo. Twenty or so images will cover a thirty-year period of history from the 1920s to the 1940s, with as many episodes aimed at highlighting that moment which is not considered to be very important, but which is certainly crucial for the identification of the \"codes of the soul\" of our great Masters of Italian design: childhood. The photographs, mostly unpublished, have been found with the collaboration of the families, archives and publishers of reference of the Masters. The quotations that accompany the Masters\' photographs as children come from private conversations, publications, diaries and letters, or from unpublished material specially prepared for the exhibition. The subtitle \"Stories of children who were children like you\" alludes to the extraordinary nature of these events, each special and unique in its own way, and at the same time to the absolute normality of the Masters\' childhoods, their games, their desires and fears, framed by the years of the Wars. The names range from the great masters who have passed away, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Richard Sapper, Alessandro Mendini, Aldo Rossi, Joe Colombo, Marco Zanuso, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, to the illustrious names of the golden age of Italian design: Enzo Mari, Cini Boeri, Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi, Ugo La Pietra. The layout and graphics, by Paolo Giacomazzi, follow the inspiration of the carousel, with an ideal roundabout in which the spectator is at the centre and the little masters hold hands.

MOSTRO 3 Graphic Design Camp @ Laboratorio Formentini per l'Editoria

MOSTRO, the third edition of the International Festival dedicated to graphic arts and visual communication, returns to Milan in three venues from 3 to 10 October 2019 as part of the Brera Design Days. The third edition of MOSTRO - graphic design camp is dedicated to Europe and the bridges that culture can build thanks to designers of different generations and backgrounds where politics and economics are backward for fear and speculation. The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work. The format of MOSTRO continues to insist on exhibitions, talks and workshops in collaboration with the Laboratorio Formentini to tell the figures and crafts of visual communication and graphic arts.  This year the festival also involves two other venues: the Czech Center in via Morgagni and the new Meme gallery in via Crispi, Milan. \"The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work\" - says Marco Sammicheli - Curator of the Festival, \"The collaboration with the Czech Center stems from the desire to dedicate to the Czech Republic the role of host country. After Turkey and France, protagonists of the first and second edition with Sarp Sözdinler and Agathe Singer, MOSTRO chooses to investigate a new territory\". Adam Štěch and the Okolo studio in Prague will present an exhibition on the visualization of texts written by Maria Cristina Didero during her career as a curator. A visual experiment aimed at extending the relationship between the curator and the designer to that of the visual communicator. The exhibition will be set up at the Formentini Laboratory and during a talk the author will talk to Didero about the themes of the exhibition. The School of Design of the University of San Marino is another guest of the festival. A class of young graphic designers coordinated by Lucia Roscini will prepare a newspaper of the festival and will exhibit in the project room of the Laboratorio Formentini dedicated to new talents. The Mondadori Foundation, owner of the Laboratorio Formentini, this year celebrates forty years of activity. MOSTRO is dedicating an exhibition to him, curated by Marco W. Fagioli, art director of ZUP and co-founder of the festival, and Paul Robb, Irish graphic designer, owner of the Salt & Pepper studio. CODING FOR KIDS powered by IED

Children from 7 to 12 years old can have fun and learn with the art of coding. Coding? Yes, a subject, now, almost scholastic, which aims to teach software development (and not only) to young minds. Its strength lies in providing the logic of computational thinking even to the smallest, potentially more \"explosive\" minds. During the workshop the children, organized in small teams, will be able to interact with the Sphero Bolt and develop an idea thanks to this art. Everything will be possible through a graphical interface where it will not be necessary to write but, through an approach to Lego, you can observe the magic accomplished in front of him. All this by stimulating the mind to reason and face a new level of reasoning. The beautiful? The result will be achieved by having fun. Each participant is advised to be equipped with a tablet (possibly an iPad). PROGRAM - Start of work at 10:30, with a teaching session and mini-exercises until 13:00 - Lunch break between 13.00 and 13.30 (to be paid for by the parents or accompanying adults of the participants) - From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. the work continues in groups, with demonstration of the results between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Until 12 noon everyone is welcome, while afterwards any access to the activity will depend on the conditions of the event. The activity is led by Giacomo Cusano and Luca Infante, IED Milan teachers.

Entreprecariat - We are all entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneur or precarious? These are the terms of a cognitive dissonance in which everything seems a colossal startup. Silvio Lorusso leads us to the discovery of \"entrepreneurship\", a universe made of productivity tools, motivational posters and self-help techniques to be optimistic. Not only that: a mix of entrepreneurial ideology and widespread precariousness is what regulates social media, online markets for self-employment and crowdfunding platforms. The result? A life in permanent beta, with sometimes tragic implications. Entreprecariat is a book about entrepreneurship, but it is not a self-help manual to \"make it through\". It\'s not even the usual hagiography of visionaries like Steve Jobs or self-made men like Flavio Briatore. On the contrary, the book describes the reality that surrounds the so-called \"entrepreneurs of themselves\": students, freelancers, unemployed pushed or forced to develop an entrepreneurial mentality so as not to succumb to the growing precariousness that involves the professional, economic and existential spheres. Colonial Hauntology

Our cities, our museums, our universities, our homes, even our mirrors, are infested with ghosts. Spectral traces of our colonial past, uncomfortable and often unconscious cultural legacies that strongly re-emerge in our public and private spaces, in often unexpected ways - in the daily intimacy of gestures, consumer objects, relationships - making the recognition of the \"other\" as a human being extremely complex, and of ourselves as a radically intercultural community. Some recent political and/or artistic actions of re-appropriation and re-writing of these spaces act as a sort of detonator, allowing us to understand also the role of our bodies, which often without our knowledge act by reproducing stereotypes and colonial postures, through a sort of \"choreography\", which are also \"affective predispositions\". The critical and transformative space opened up by these actions, invites us to question ourselves, questioning our discomfort, our intellectual security, our common sense, the urgency of a cultural change, for a different \"community that comes\". The Lavazza Flagship in Milan, the place where coffee and design meet, is the perfect setting for a small, thoughtful exhibition of moka coffee pots: objects through which international masters of architecture and design celebrate the art and pleasure of coffee. The coffee pot is a ritual, a symbol, a perfect synthesis between form and function. Starting from this assumption, Water Faces intends to show the impact that direct access to drinking water generates on the lives of those who previously did not have this primary good and does so by incorporating the two elements, faces and water, in portraits with strong contrasts, both color and light. In the shots, the function of water is then emptied of the aura of everyday life that it takes in our lives to be covered, through a new context and environment, the deeper meaning of change in relation to the people who use it. Although it does not appear in every shot, it remains the protagonist, showing itself now indirectly, now directly, through the objects and bodies of those who meet it. Water faces is the series realized in Tanzania by Simone Bramante in collaboration with WAMI, to remember how much water, common good to our eyes, is actually a precious source of life and change in countries where direct access to it is still a question solved only in part. "That's what I know," more than a slogan, it's an attitude

To build a Community, the starting point can only be the words: those that define, tell, identify a group of people, groups, institutions ... Words that everyone uses from their own experiences. What characterizes a community today? What contributes to creating and consolidating it? What are the strengths and weaknesses of this entity that is so natural and at the same time so abstract? A permanent garrison curated by DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP will collect inside and outside the Brera Design Days, with questionnaires, video interviews and life stories, the elements necessary to co-construct a common language from which to work with and for the community(ies). DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP is an ODA born in 2019 in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The aims that DAP intends to pursue originate from a macro objective: the promotion of knowledge and awareness of human rights in the daily work of the community. In this framework, DAP comes into contact with the world of schools and universities, with professional bodies, with the realities of the territory, with local authorities, in a word with the communities in order to promote a new identity, conscious, welcoming and inclusive, a community design for all. Sacco goes green. Zanotta celebrates 50 years of Sacco and becomes eco-sustainable

A showcase installation that will last for the whole duration of the Brera Design Days with opening on the evening of October 4th. Zanotta celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sacco armchair with a special and numbered “green” edition. Designed in 1968 by the young architects Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro and put into production by Zanotta in 1969, Sacco represented a provocation and a revolution expressing the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated those years. Known as symbol of avant-garde and experimenting, Sacco turns today in “green” version: innovative sustainable materials both for the internal filling and for the cover, proposed in a brand-new texture designed by Pierre Charpin, relaunch the icon while caring for the environment. Little Masters. Stories of children who were children like you.

An exhibition of pictures accompanied by small narratives of their childhood memories illustrates the masters of design in the age of their childhood. On the occasion of the fourth edition of the Brera Design Days, Fondazione Corriere della Sera will host a project curated by Chiara Alessi and Elisa Testori, produced by StudioLabo. Twenty or so images will cover a thirty-year period of history from the 1920s to the 1940s, with as many episodes aimed at highlighting that moment which is not considered to be very important, but which is certainly crucial for the identification of the \"codes of the soul\" of our great Masters of Italian design: childhood. The photographs, mostly unpublished, have been found with the collaboration of the families, archives and publishers of reference of the Masters. The quotations that accompany the Masters\' photographs as children come from private conversations, publications, diaries and letters, or from unpublished material specially prepared for the exhibition. The subtitle \"Stories of children who were children like you\" alludes to the extraordinary nature of these events, each special and unique in its own way, and at the same time to the absolute normality of the Masters\' childhoods, their games, their desires and fears, framed by the years of the Wars. The names range from the great masters who have passed away, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Richard Sapper, Alessandro Mendini, Aldo Rossi, Joe Colombo, Marco Zanuso, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, to the illustrious names of the golden age of Italian design: Enzo Mari, Cini Boeri, Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi, Ugo La Pietra. The layout and graphics, by Paolo Giacomazzi, follow the inspiration of the carousel, with an ideal roundabout in which the spectator is at the centre and the little masters hold hands.

MOSTRO, the third edition of the International Festival dedicated to graphic arts and visual communication, returns to Milan in three venues from 3 to 10 October 2019 as part of the Brera Design Days. The third edition of MOSTRO - graphic design camp is dedicated to Europe and the bridges that culture can build thanks to designers of different generations and backgrounds where politics and economics are backward for fear and speculation. The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work. The format of MOSTRO continues to insist on exhibitions, talks and workshops in collaboration with the Laboratorio Formentini to tell the figures and crafts of visual communication and graphic arts.  This year the festival also involves two other venues: the Czech Center in via Morgagni and the new Meme gallery in via Crispi, Milan. \"The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work\" - says Marco Sammicheli - Curator of the Festival, \"The collaboration with the Czech Center stems from the desire to dedicate to the Czech Republic the role of host country. Adam Štěch and the Okolo studio in Prague will present an exhibition on the visualization of texts written by Maria Cristina Didero during her career as a curator. A visual experiment aimed at extending the relationship between the curator and the designer to that of the visual communicator. The School of Design of the University of San Marino is another guest of the festival. Selamawit will develop a path of personal and shared research on traditional Ethiopian dance. In Ethiopia, dance has a different value and meaning from those codified in the Western world. Let's meet the robotic. Let's build a robot.

The workshop will focus on children, encouraging their creativity, ideas, timing and personality. No desks and chairs, no frontal lessons. Just a lot of fun because scientific subjects can be transmitted in an interesting way for any age. We will apply Design Thinking techniques, an alternative way of learning and teaching, and we will learn that failure is still an opportunity to be used to grow and improve. "Why don't you take them to your house?" Antiracism and everyday life in the experiences of coexistence solidarity.

The world of hospitality in Italy is composite, mobile, and has been subject to continuous redefinitions over the last decade. Numerous studies have highlighted the structural limits of a system in which, although widespread \"good practices\", denounce the total arbitrariness of the fate of those who find themselves living this system. The segregation, material and symbolic, to which refugee people are subjected, responds to the need to produce \"order\" through the control of a subject considered naturally dangerous. But even when the refugee, or in general the migrant person, is not seen as a danger, he is still thought of as a \"deficient subject\", someone who lacks skills and resources - linguistic, intellectual, material). As a consequence, the reception becomes the synonym of a service to be dedicated to a subject in minority to make up for his shortcomings. The mixture of these two aspects, segregation and depersonalization, is critical not only for the beneficiaries of the system, subject to exclusion and infantilisation that diminishes the possibility of carrying out projects of autonomy, but also in terms of social impact. Without forgetting that there is a dimension of material needs to be met, it is good to understand that reception is always a relationship. In this sense, it is necessary that reception also becomes a job with, on and from local citizenship. The mechanisms of segregation, in fact, by strengthening the separation between groups, are jointly responsible for the xenophobic and racist relentlessness towards migrants and the reception system itself. In a context such as the one we are facing today, family care is an innovative model to facilitate social inclusion and develop daily strategies of cohesion, solidarity and anti-racism. Through the experiences of coexistence, who we are and who we are is questioned, renegotiated and reinvented. KINDOF - POWER OF A SINGLE REBAR

Kindof was founded under the direction of Mattia and Luca Ghielmi, merchants for two generations in building materials, and patented the use of a single rod of ribbed steel rod - created for reinforced concrete constructions - to create instead furniture elements and The new system is designed to complement and extend its intended use. Community Drinks - Humanity InInterRoute: with migrants along the Balkan route

Why has a group of young people linked to Via Scalabrini 3 decided to organise and is now carrying out (6 to 25 September 2019) a journey alongside migrants along the Balkan route, from Gaziantep in Turkey to Trieste? Why want to collect and then tell the sparks of solidarity that shine along this path? Why commit oneself to building human and solidarity relations for a society without ideal and real frontiers, pursuing the conviction that \"humanity does not stop\"? Why raise our voices and denounce the often closed eyes of Europe in the face of the tragedy of countless human beings? WATER FACES | Design Your Community

Just as water constantly changes shape, taking on multiple \"faces\" according to the content in which it is poured and the way in which it is used, so do the faces of the people who come into contact with it change, in a path of growth towards a new future. Starting from this assumption, Water Faces intends to show the impact that direct access to drinking water generates on the lives of those who previously did not have this primary good and does so by incorporating the two elements, faces and water, in portraits with strong contrasts, both color and light. In the shots, the function of water is then emptied of the aura of everyday life that it takes in our lives to be covered, through a new context and environment, the deeper meaning of change in relation to the people who use it. Although it does not appear in every shot, it remains the protagonist, showing itself now indirectly, now directly, through the objects and bodies of those who meet it. Water faces is the series realized in Tanzania by Simone Bramante in collaboration with WAMI, to remember how much water, common good to our eyes, is actually a precious source of life and change in countries where direct access to it is still a question solved only in part. "That's what I know," more than a slogan, it's an attitude

To build a Community, the starting point can only be the words: those that define, tell, identify a group of people, groups, institutions ... Words that everyone uses from their own experiences. What characterizes a community today? What contributes to creating and consolidating it? What are the strengths and weaknesses of this entity that is so natural and at the same time so abstract? A permanent garrison curated by DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP will collect inside and outside the Brera Design Days, with questionnaires, video interviews and life stories, the elements necessary to co-construct a common language from which to work with and for the community(ies). DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP is an ODA born in 2019 in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The aims that DAP intends to pursue originate from a macro objective: the promotion of knowledge and awareness of human rights in the daily work of the community. In this framework, DAP comes into contact with the world of schools and universities, with professional bodies, with the realities of the territory, with local authorities, in a word with the communities in order to promote a new identity, conscious, welcoming and inclusive, a community design for all. Sacco goes green. Zanotta celebrates 50 years of Sacco and becomes eco-sustainable

A showcase installation that will last for the whole duration of the Brera Design Days with opening on the evening of October 4th. Zanotta celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sacco armchair with a special and numbered “green” edition. Designed in 1968 by the young architects Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro and put into production by Zanotta in 1969, Sacco represented a provocation and a revolution expressing the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated those years. Known as symbol of avant-garde and experimenting, Sacco turns today in “green” version: innovative sustainable materials both for the internal filling and for the cover, proposed in a brand-new texture designed by Pierre Charpin, relaunch the icon while caring for the environment. Little Masters. Stories of children who were children like you.

An exhibition of pictures accompanied by small narratives of their childhood memories illustrates the masters of design in the age of their childhood. On the occasion of the fourth edition of the Brera Design Days, Fondazione Corriere della Sera will host a project curated by Chiara Alessi and Elisa Testori, produced by StudioLabo. Twenty or so images will cover a thirty-year period of history from the 1920s to the 1940s, with as many episodes aimed at highlighting that moment which is not considered to be very important, but which is certainly crucial for the identification of the \"codes of the soul\" of our great Masters of Italian design: childhood. The photographs, mostly unpublished, have been found with the collaboration of the families, archives and publishers of reference of the Masters. The quotations that accompany the Masters\' photographs as children come from private conversations, publications, diaries and letters, or from unpublished material specially prepared for the exhibition. The subtitle \"Stories of children who were children like you\" alludes to the extraordinary nature of these events, each special and unique in its own way, and at the same time to the absolute normality of the Masters\' childhoods, their games, their desires and fears, framed by the years of the Wars. The names range from the great masters who have passed away, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Richard Sapper, Alessandro Mendini, Aldo Rossi, Joe Colombo, Marco Zanuso, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, to the illustrious names of the golden age of Italian design: Enzo Mari, Cini Boeri, Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi, Ugo La Pietra. The layout and graphics, by Paolo Giacomazzi, follow the inspiration of the carousel, with an ideal roundabout in which the spectator is at the centre and the little masters hold hands.

MOSTRO, the third edition of the International Festival dedicated to graphic arts and visual communication, returns to Milan in three venues from 3 to 10 October 2019 as part of the Brera Design Days. The third edition of MOSTRO - graphic design camp is dedicated to Europe and the bridges that culture can build thanks to designers of different generations and backgrounds where politics and economics are backward for fear and speculation. The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work. The format of MOSTRO continues to insist on exhibitions, talks and workshops in collaboration with the Laboratorio Formentini to tell the figures and crafts of visual communication and graphic arts.  This year the festival also involves two other venues: the Czech Center in via Morgagni and the new Meme gallery in via Crispi, Milan. \"The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work\" - says Marco Sammicheli - Curator of the Festival, \"The collaboration with the Czech Center stems from the desire to dedicate to the Czech Republic the role of host country. After Turkey and France, protagonists of the first and second edition with Sarp Sözdinler and Agathe Singer, MOSTRO chooses to investigate a new territory\". Adam Štěch and the Okolo studio in Prague will present an exhibition on the visualization of texts written by Maria Cristina Didero during her career as a curator. A visual experiment aimed at extending the relationship between the curator and the designer to that of the visual communicator. The exhibition will be set up at the Formentini Laboratory and during a talk the author will talk to Didero about the themes of the exhibition. The School of Design of the University of San Marino is another guest of the festival. A class of young graphic designers coordinated by Lucia Roscini will prepare a newspaper of the festival and will exhibit in the project room of the Laboratorio Formentini dedicated to new talents. The Mondadori Foundation, owner of the Laboratorio Formentini, this year celebrates forty years of activity. MOSTRO is dedicating an exhibition to him, curated by Marco W. WORKSHOP WITH SELAMAWIT BIRUK

Selamawit will develop a path of personal and shared research on traditional Ethiopian dance. In Ethiopia, dance has a different value and meaning from those codified in the Western world. The working tools she will use are dance (through a series of physical practices) and mixed media arts, with a workshop for the creation of a series of artistic supports called \"Artist\'s Books\" based on the physical experiences she had during the three days of shared work. The last day will begin to build a research path that will lead her to develop, drawing on what was developed during the residence, a practice that is based on traditional Ethiopian dances and that leads her to confront what was investigated. True stories of possible cohabitation

From industry to agriculture to cultural services, more and more companies are betting on the integration of migrants. Especially young people who have arrived in Italy alone, after leaving their country of origin to escape conflict, violence or extreme poverty, in search of a place to build the future. So it happens that every day the electric workshop of a factory that produces cement in Sicily and exports it all over the world, is transformed into a prayer room accepting the request of two young Muslims, placed in the company thanks to an experience of extracurricular internship. As far as the cultural sector is concerned, innovative experiences from the South speak to us instead of the inclusion of young people of foreign origin as inter-cultural museum mediators who have the task of making a real cultural translation of the local heritage through forms of functional comparison. These become the tool to understand the dynamics of the cultural fruition of this heritage by migrant people and therefore to make it accessible to them. A tale of real experiences that represent an alternative to a system that is still profoundly immature compared to the possibility of building and making customary inclusion practices. WATER FACES | Design Your Community

Just as water constantly changes shape, taking on multiple \"faces\" according to the content in which it is poured and the way in which it is used, so do the faces of the people who come into contact with it change, in a path of growth towards a new future. Starting from this assumption, Water Faces intends to show the impact that direct access to drinking water generates on the lives of those who previously did not have this primary good and does so by incorporating the two elements, faces and water, in portraits with strong contrasts, both color and light. In the shots, the function of water is then emptied of the aura of everyday life that it takes in our lives to be covered, through a new context and environment, the deeper meaning of change in relation to the people who use it. Although it does not appear in every shot, it remains the protagonist, showing itself now indirectly, now directly, through the objects and bodies of those who meet it. Water faces is the series realized in Tanzania by Simone Bramante in collaboration with WAMI, to remember how much water, common good to our eyes, is actually a precious source of life and change in countries where direct access to it is still a question solved only in part. "That's what I know," more than a slogan, it's an attitude

To build a Community, the starting point can only be the words: those that define, tell, identify a group of people, groups, institutions ... Words that everyone uses from their own experiences. What characterizes a community today? What contributes to creating and consolidating it? What are the strengths and weaknesses of this entity that is so natural and at the same time so abstract? A permanent garrison curated by DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP will collect inside and outside the Brera Design Days, with questionnaires, video interviews and life stories, the elements necessary to co-construct a common language from which to work with and for the community(ies). DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP is an ODA born in 2019 in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The aims that DAP intends to pursue originate from a macro objective: the promotion of knowledge and awareness of human rights in the daily work of the community. In this framework, DAP comes into contact with the world of schools and universities, with professional bodies, with the realities of the territory, with local authorities, in a word with the communities in order to promote a new identity, conscious, welcoming and inclusive, a community design for all. Zanotta celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sacco armchair with a special and numbered “green” edition. Designed in 1968 by the young architects Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro and put into production by Zanotta in 1969, Sacco represented a provocation and a revolution expressing the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated those years. Little Masters. Stories of children who were children like you.

An exhibition of pictures accompanied by small narratives of their childhood memories illustrates the masters of design in the age of their childhood. On the occasion of the fourth edition of the Brera Design Days, Fondazione Corriere della Sera will host a project curated by Chiara Alessi and Elisa Testori, produced by StudioLabo. Twenty or so images will cover a thirty-year period of history from the 1920s to the 1940s, with as many episodes aimed at highlighting that moment which is not considered to be very important, but which is certainly crucial for the identification of the \"codes of the soul\" of our great Masters of Italian design: childhood. The photographs, mostly unpublished, have been found with the collaboration of the families, archives and publishers of reference of the Masters. The quotations that accompany the Masters\' photographs as children come from private conversations, publications, diaries and letters, or from unpublished material specially prepared for the exhibition. The subtitle \"Stories of children who were children like you\" alludes to the extraordinary nature of these events, each special and unique in its own way, and at the same time to the absolute normality of the Masters\' childhoods, their games, their desires and fears, framed by the years of the Wars. The names range from the great masters who have passed away, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Richard Sapper, Alessandro Mendini, Aldo Rossi, Joe Colombo, Marco Zanuso, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, to the illustrious names of the golden age of Italian design: Enzo Mari, Cini Boeri, Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi, Ugo La Pietra. The layout and graphics, by Paolo Giacomazzi, follow the inspiration of the carousel, with an ideal roundabout in which the spectator is at the centre and the little masters hold hands.

The format of MOSTRO continues to insist on exhibitions, talks and workshops in collaboration with the Laboratorio Formentini to tell the figures and crafts of visual communication and graphic arts.  This year the festival also involves two other venues: the Czech Center in via Morgagni and the new Meme gallery in via Crispi, Milan. \"The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work\" - says Marco Sammicheli - Curator of the Festival, \"The collaboration with the Czech Center stems from the desire to dedicate to the Czech Republic the role of host country. After Turkey and France, protagonists of the first and second edition with Sarp Sözdinler and Agathe Singer, MOSTRO chooses to investigate a new territory\". Adam Štěch and the Okolo studio in Prague will present an exhibition on the visualization of texts written by Maria Cristina Didero during her career as a curator. A visual experiment aimed at extending the relationship between the curator and the designer to that of the visual communicator. The exhibition will be set up at the Formentini Laboratory and during a talk the author will talk to Didero about the themes of the exhibition. The School of Design of the University of San Marino is another guest of the festival. A class of young graphic designers coordinated by Lucia Roscini will prepare a newspaper of the festival and will exhibit in the project room of the Laboratorio Formentini dedicated to new talents. The Mondadori Foundation, owner of the Laboratorio Formentini, this year celebrates forty years of activity. MOSTRO is dedicating an exhibition to him, curated by Marco W. Fagioli, art director of ZUP and co-founder of the festival, and Paul Robb, Irish graphic designer, owner of the Salt & Pepper studio. MOSTRO 3 Graphic Design Camp @ Meme Gallery

MOSTRO, the third edition of the International Festival dedicated to graphic arts and visual communication, returns to Milan in three venues from 3 to 10 October 2019 as part of the Brera Design Days. The third edition of MOSTRO - graphic design camp is dedicated to Europe and the bridges that culture can build thanks to designers of different generations and backgrounds where politics and economics are backward for fear and speculation. The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work. Selamawit will develop a path of personal and shared research on traditional Ethiopian dance. In Ethiopia, dance has a different value and meaning from those codified in the Western world. The working tools she will use are dance (through a series of physical practices) and mixed media arts, with a workshop for the creation of a series of artistic supports called \"Artist\'s Books\" based on the physical experiences she had during the three days of shared work. Closing Party Brera Design Days 2019

WATER FACES | Design Your Community

Just as water constantly changes shape, taking on multiple \"faces\" according to the content in which it is poured and the way in which it is used, so do the faces of the people who come into contact with it change, in a path of growth towards a new future. Starting from this assumption, Water Faces intends to show the impact that direct access to drinking water generates on the lives of those who previously did not have this primary good and does so by incorporating the two elements, faces and water, in portraits with strong contrasts, both color and light. In the shots, the function of water is then emptied of the aura of everyday life that it takes in our lives to be covered, through a new context and environment, the deeper meaning of change in relation to the people who use it. Although it does not appear in every shot, it remains the protagonist, showing itself now indirectly, now directly, through the objects and bodies of those who meet it. Water faces is the series realized in Tanzania by Simone Bramante in collaboration with WAMI, to remember how much water, common good to our eyes, is actually a precious source of life and change in countries where direct access to it is still a question solved only in part. A permanent garrison curated by DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP will collect inside and outside the Brera Design Days, with questionnaires, video interviews and life stories, the elements necessary to co-construct a common language from which to work with and for the community(ies). DIRITTI A PRESCINDERE - DAP is an ODA born in 2019 in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The aims that DAP intends to pursue originate from a macro objective: the promotion of knowledge and awareness of human rights in the daily work of the community. In this framework, DAP comes into contact with the world of schools and universities, with professional bodies, with the realities of the territory, with local authorities, in a word with the communities in order to promote a new identity, conscious, welcoming and inclusive, a community design for all. An iconographic path that shows, as in history until today, starting from Leonardo who used it to identify in his famous drawing the proportions in the human body, architects, graphic designers, and used the golden section to refine the proportions of their works. CUF Milano, a new brand for the design and construction of contemporary workplaces, presents in its showroom in via Rosales, a careful selection of works by Studio Origoni Steiner that show the use of the divine proportion in projects representative of graphics in Italy. Sacco goes green. Zanotta celebrates 50 years of Sacco and becomes eco-sustainable

A showcase installation that will last for the whole duration of the Brera Design Days with opening on the evening of October 4th. Zanotta celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sacco armchair with a special and numbered “green” edition. Designed in 1968 by the young architects Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro and put into production by Zanotta in 1969, Sacco represented a provocation and a revolution expressing the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated those years. Known as symbol of avant-garde and experimenting, Sacco turns today in “green” version: innovative sustainable materials both for the internal filling and for the cover, proposed in a brand-new texture designed by Pierre Charpin, relaunch the icon while caring for the environment. MOSTRO 3 Graphic Design Camp @ Laboratorio Formentini per l'Editoria

MOSTRO, the third edition of the International Festival dedicated to graphic arts and visual communication, returns to Milan in three venues from 3 to 10 October 2019 as part of the Brera Design Days. The third edition of MOSTRO - graphic design camp is dedicated to Europe and the bridges that culture can build thanks to designers of different generations and backgrounds where politics and economics are backward for fear and speculation. The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work. The format of MOSTRO continues to insist on exhibitions, talks and workshops in collaboration with the Laboratorio Formentini to tell the figures and crafts of visual communication and graphic arts.  This year the festival also involves two other venues: the Czech Center in via Morgagni and the new Meme gallery in via Crispi, Milan. \"The festival shows stories and events in which creativity and research are concrete opportunities for collaboration, dialogue and work\" - says Marco Sammicheli - Curator of the Festival, \"The collaboration with the Czech Center stems from the desire to dedicate to the Czech Republic the role of host country. After Turkey and France, protagonists of the first and second edition with Sarp Sözdinler and Agathe Singer, MOSTRO chooses to investigate a new territory\". Adam Štěch and the Okolo studio in Prague will present an exhibition on the visualization of texts written by Maria Cristina Didero during her career as a curator. A visual experiment aimed at extending the relationship between the curator and the designer to that of the visual communicator. The exhibition will be set up at the Formentini Laboratory and during a talk the author will talk to Didero about the themes of the exhibition. The School of Design of the University of San Marino is another guest of the festival. A class of young graphic designers coordinated by Lucia Roscini will prepare a newspaper of the festival and will exhibit in the project room of the Laboratorio Formentini dedicated to new talents. The Mondadori Foundation, owner of the Laboratorio Formentini, this year celebrates forty years of activity. MOSTRO is dedicating an exhibition to him, curated by Marco W. Fagioli, art director of ZUP and co-founder of the festival, and Paul Robb, Irish graphic designer, owner of the Salt & Pepper studio.
