Giulia Grechi teaches Cultural Anthropology and Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. Her research interests include cultural and post-colonial studies, migrations, museology, with a focus on body representations and “Italianism”, and on how contemporary artistic practices can re-discuss and give different forms to these imagery.
She is co-director of the online magazine roots§routes – research on visual culture (www.roots- routes.org) and is a founding member (with Viviana Gravano) of Routes Agency. Cura of contemporary arts (www.routesagency.com), a cultural association with which she has participated in international research projects and curated exhibitions and events around postcolonial themes. She has published, among other things, La rappresentazione incorporata. An ethnography of the body between colonial stereotypes and contemporary art (Mimesis 2016) and (with Viviana Gravano) Presente Imperfetto. Contemporary colonial heritage and racial imagery (Mimesis 2016).
